The National Cleaner Production Centre of South Africa (NCPC-SA) is a national programme that helps industry implement resource efficiency and cleaner production (RECP) methodologies – enabling companies to save through reduced energy, water and materials usage, and improved waste management. The Centre’s mission is to foster the efficient utilisation of resources, reduce tangible and intangible costs and improve industry competitiveness in a sustainable manner. This is done through strategic objectives:
• Awareness raising, advocacy and demonstration of the benefits of RECP;
• Technical support to industry through RECP methodologies and tools;
• Facilitation implementation of RECP in industry; and
• Capacity building and development of RECP skills.
The services of the NCPC-SA are, at this stage, fully subsidised to enable companies to proactively address environmental compliance, as well as contribute to reducing the strain on national energy and water resources.
The NCPC-SA is a programme of the Department of Trade and Industry and is hosted by the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research.
