Dubbed ‘Africa’s greenest and, arguably, most creative luxury hotel’, by Cape Town Magazine, it is not only designers, architects and hoteliers who have left their mark of innovation on Hotel Verde, but also artists. Wherever you look in the reception, lounge area, restaurant, conference and meeting areas, and even in the passageways, you’ll see artworks paintings, sculptures, mixed-media (several created by recycling waste), design works and installations (some interactive). But it’s not just a fascinating art collection. Each piece is selected because it’s created by a local artist and, importantly, because the artist and his or her work is in accord with the ethos of the hotel, which is summed up in five words written on clocks behind the reception desk, “honest, passionate, sustainable, respect and caring”.
