Kilimanyika is a specialised consultancy firm based in East Africa, whose mission is to promote socio-economic development and environmental conservation under the umbrella of sustainable natural resources management. It was set up in 2006 by two experienced natural resources management consultants and, with close links to other experts in relevant fields, is able to provide expertise for a wide range of projects. Kilimanyika has worked in many different environments, from coastal and marine ecosystems to forests and rangelands; in national parks, private estates, wildlife corridors and village lands.
The company takes a holistic approach towards its projects. Working with all stakeholders of a particular ecosystem and taking into account the biodiversity, socio-economic, political and institutional contexts of the issue, it brings together all parties to find an all-encompassing solution and action plan. Its services include project design, development and management, proposal writing, research and analysis, strategic guidance, communications and campaigns; it works with a range of clients to research, plan, implement and evaluate initiatives. These initiatives may include the setting up of community-based natural resource management systems, improving the effectiveness of protected areas, setting up appropriate organisations and building capacity, or implementing specific initiatives such as payment for ecosystems services (PES). It is at the forefront of tackling climate change by using an innovative and ground-up approach to adaptation measures.
