Campi ya Kanzi is an award-winning luxury ecolodge located at the foot of the Chyulu Hills in southern Kenya. Meaning “Camp of the Hidden Treasure” in Swahili, Campi ya Kanzi is a rare gem where guests can escape the ordinary, avoid the crowds, and experience a dream safari. The landscape ranges from sprawling savannah to lava flows to lush cloud forests, and the wilderness is teeming with wildlife. Guests can choose from an abundance of thrilling activities, whether hiking in Ernest Hemingway’s “Green Hills of Africa,” flying over Mount Kilimanjaro, riding horses through the plains, visiting an authentic Maasai village, fly camping, or enjoying a lamp-lit dinner in a magnificent lava cave.
Founded in 1996, Campi ya Kanzi is owned by the local Maasai community, who helped to build the camp and are involved in every level of its operation. Campi ya Kanzi is the only safari camp in Kuku Group Ranch, a private Maasai reserve of over 280,000 acres, where guests can enjoy peaceful solitude, privacy, and a deep connection with the Maasai people. Because the camp is located outside the national parks, guests can escape the safari cars to enjoy beautiful walks and hikes with Maasai guides while still seeing all the wildlife of the Amboseli-Tsavo ecosystem.
As a leader of sustainable and socially responsible tourism, Campi ya Kanzi employs eco-friendly practices to ensure that it has minimal impact on the environment that it protects, and it directly supports its co-founded partner non-profit, the Maasai Wilderness Conservation Trust.
