Association Paysanne pour l’Autosuffisance Alimentaire works in the Democratic Republic of Congo and aims to change community life by protecting the environment and growing food under permaculture principles. The organisation works in 3 main areas:
1) sensitizing women farmers to the protection of the Congo Basin through capacity building, research, awareness raising and dissemination of infomation about the impacts of farming on biodiversity and the environment;
2) constructing latrines (toilets) at schools in the East of the DRC – combined with research, capacity building on water, hygiene and sanitation and evaluation;
3) food growing and reforestation using permaculture principles – engaging local authorities and through the implementation of a pilot food garden and nurseries.
