Description: The University of Cape Town’s Underwater Club is hosting a speaker series on the State of Our Oceans called ‘The Bottom of the Line’, during April and May 2013. Speakers on Wednesday 24 April are Gregg Oelofse and Ernesta Swanepeol.
Gregg Oelofse, Head of Environmental Policy and Strategy at the City of Cape Town, will be talking on ‘Challenges in Environmental Policy-making‘, discussing the challenges and opportunities of a diverse and rich marine environment occurring alongside a populated urban environment.
Ernesta Swanepoel, International Environmental Law Specialist, will be talking on ‘Oceans, Climate Change and International Law‘ discussing the role of oceans and the climate, the impact of climate change on oceans, ocean acidification, coral bleaching, the international framework, mitigation options such as iron fertilization, how this will impact us and what we can do.
