Description: The KwaZulu-Natal Sharks Board is pleased to announce that it will be hosting the second Sharks International Symposium at the Southern Sun Elangeni-Maharani Hotel in Durban, South Africa from 2-6 June 2014.
Sharks International in Cairns, Australia in June 2010 was the first fully international elasmobranch conference in nearly 20 years. Although it was arranged as a once-off event, it was so successful that most of the delegates felt that it should not only be repeated but that it should become a regular event.
The aim of this conference is to provide a forum for the world’s leading shark and ray researchers, along with students and early career scientists to meet, share ideas, update information and report on the progress of their most recent scientific studies. Networking opportunities at a conference of this nature and size are enormous (we are hoping to eclipse the attendance figures of 214 delegates from 22 countries at Cairns). There will not be any specific themes at the conference, although every effort will be made to try and group presentations on a particular topic into a session or consecutive sessions. We have already been approached regarding such sessions on sawfish and evolutionary development of elasmobranchs.
