Description: The International Off-Grid Renewable Energy Conference focuses on the scaling-up of rural electrification in developing countries through the off-grid systems’ massive deployment (mini-grid and stand-alone applications) based on renewable energy.

The Conference is an important occasion to stimulate the dialogue among stakeholders involved in the rural electrification field and, in particular, between the public and the private sector, with a focus on Africa.

The Conference provides a crucial opportunity to:
• Identify and discuss the main barriers to the scaling up of rural electrification based on off-grid renewable energy systems;
• Highlight policies and measures useful to overcome such barriers;
• Share knowledge about innovative financing solutions, technologies and the latest research on off-grid renewable energy systems.

The Conference will convene participants from public institutions, international organizations, financing institutions, academia and private companies that are active in the rural electrification and in the renewable energy fields. The Conference will take place immediately after the ECOWAS High Level Forum on “Paving the Way for Sustainable Energy for All in West Africa through Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency”, which will be held in Accra on 29-31 October 2012. The International Off-Grid Renewable Energy Conference is an official contribution to the Sustainable Energy for All initiative.
