Description: Biodiversity in protected areas depends on factors that extend well beyond the boundaries of conservation areas. Some of these factors can be managed and others not. Authorities responsible for management could benefit from the development of ecological frameworks that address the maintenance of biodiversity across different land uses. This year’s conference focuses on these frameworks and on the management of ecological, social and economic factors that influence biodiversity within and beyond protected areas. The conference also welcomes case studies that illustrate how different land use practices influence biodiversity and that reflect on the challenges scientists and managers face when addressing the maintenance of biodiversity through integrated land use approaches.
