Dates: 13 – 15 April 2014
Website/register: 8th German-African Energy Forum
Description: The Afrika-Verein der deutschen Wirtschaft (German-African Business Association) invites you to the 8thGerman-African Energy Forum in Hamburg from 13 – 15 April 2014, this year under the device “New Power for a sustainable Partnership”.
Comprehensive energy provision is a basic condition for creating jobs in Africa and so that sustainable economic development is possible. Despite many developments in the past ten years there is still a lot of catching up to do. For example, over 75 per cent of the African population do not have any access to electricity.
The governments of many African countries and the African Union have recognised the need for action and have put together an investment package to close the gaps in supply in the next few years. By 2040 they want to invest a total of 1 trillion euros in building up the energy infrastructure. Numerous German companies are already profiting from these developments today and are concluding successful transactions in almost all African countries. Many of these success stories have been presented at our German-African Energy Forum in the past few years. More than a few contacts and more than a little information that ultimately initiated successful projects originated from this forum.
Thus since 2006 the German-African Energy Forum has established itself as the most important platform for German-African relations in the energy sector in Europe. Last year over 500 visitors took part, including 260 African delegates from 35 countries with ten ministers and vice-ministers. We also expect over 500 experts and high-ranking participants from Africa, Germany and Europe again in 2014.
All important issues concerning the energy sector will be discussed including:
• The potential of renewable energies on the African market
• The effects of current world market developments in the oil and gas
sector in Africa
• The role of governments in building up the energy sector
• Current success stories and the lessons learned/best practice –
examples from these
The draft program of the 8th German-African Energy Forum is available here.
As in the previous years, we are pleased to offer an attractive three-days side program, which takes place from April 11th to April 13th 2014. Further information concerning the program and the registration process is available here.
